From the first time I experienced Reiki during a session, which was about 2006, I knew in my heart that I had to learn it. At the time, I was having occasional acupuncture sessions with a very skilled and talented acupuncturist. One day as she and I were chatting during my appointment, she mentioned that she thought I’d like Reiki, as she knew of my interest in crystals and spirituality. “What’s Reiki?” I asked. I was not familiar with it. As she briefly told me about it, it sounded wonderful and I was curious. I asked her where I could have a session. She mentioned that she was a Reiki practitioner and could give me a session. With that, I was ready to book a session and experience it! I recall that my initial Reiki sessions were very relaxing and took me deep into inner stillness. The radiant Reiki energy felt so blissful and nurturing. I remember having some inner visions during some sessions as well. I left my Reiki sessions feeling uplifted, peaceful, lighter, and clearer. I simply loved the energy and asked her to tell me more about Reiki. I was surprised when she told me that one could learn Reiki in a weekend workshop. I was excited and because I had a great rapport with her, I was hoping she would offer a Reiki class so that I could learn from her. However, she explained that although she had the certification to practice Reiki, she hadn’t done the next level of Reiki training to be able to teach it. The strong interest I had to get certified in Reiki continued. I thought to myself, how could I not learn it? I would be able to give myself Reiki and it would be a wonderful and empowering way to enhance my personal well-being. I feel Reiki is a beautiful gift to humanity. Anyone can learn Reiki, and its loving, nurturing, and transformative power can bless and guide all aspects of one’s life. So, I began to research more about Reiki and Reiki certification. At that time, Reiki was not as well-known or mainstream here in Edmonton, Alberta, as it has become today. I wanted to find a Reiki teacher and class that felt right for me, that would provide professional, high-quality, and thorough training. In my research about Reiki, I learned about the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). With the extensive Reiki research that William Lee Rand, the founder and president of the ICRT had done, and the advanced training and experience of the Reiki teachers at the center, I felt like training through the ICRT would be the right fit for me. I felt it would provide me with what I was looking for and a solid foundation in Reiki. So, in September 2007, I travelled to Sedona, Arizona, to take the Usui/Tibetan Reiki Level I/II class with Laurelle Shanti Gaia, a Senior Reiki Master Teacher with the ICRT. It was a beautiful experience and class. And it would also slowly continue to set my path in a new direction. My husband accompanied me on the trip, and we spent some extra days there, enjoying the beauty of Sedona, which is known for its red rock formations and energy vortex sites. He didn’t take the class with me, but he did later become my first Reiki student! As a side note … For some time before doing my Reiki I/II class, I had become interested in studying the non-dualistic teachings of A Course in Miracles (ACIM). I hadn’t yet purchased the book though, to get started with the curriculum.
During one of the days that I was in my Reiki class, my husband was out and about walking around in Sedona, and found a little bookstore where he found and purchased a copy of the ACIM book for me. It was a nice surprise and gift. I mention ACIM here, simply because it has been such an important part in shaping my personal path of self-realization and also my approach to healing and vibrational alignment. One that recognizes and honors our inherent nature (our formless essence) which is already whole, complete, awake, and One with all of creation. The essence of what we truly are is perfect peace, love, innocence, pure awareness, and presence. My intention for taking the Reiki I/II class was to use it for myself. After the class, it became my practice to give myself Reiki regularly. I appreciated that I didn’t need to direct anything, but instead I could allow the conscious intelligence of Reiki to take the lead. I could simply be carried by the sacred energy, which knows exactly what to do and what is needed. I found this liberating to be able to simply rest and relax into, its calming energy. I also began to give Reiki treatments to friends and family. After receiving the Reiki I/II attunements, one thing I noticed was that my intuition opened up and Reiki was helping me to learn to trust it. Many experience an enhancement of their intuition with attunement to Reiki, along with a heightened awareness of energy. So, Reiki was helping me to become increasingly more aware of, and in tune with, the innate intelligence and wisdom that we all hold within. Eventually, I felt the inner nudge to take the next level of Reiki training through the ICRT which was the Usui/Tibetan Advanced Reiki Training (ART) and Reiki Master class. I took this Reiki training in 2008, in Oregon, with another Senior Reiki Master Teacher, Colleen Benelli. Reiki was assisting me to gain more confidence, build resilience, and giving me the courage to follow the path that brings me the most joy. After the Reiki Master training, I also noticed an expansion in creativity. Slowly, Reiki was guiding me to trust more in the divine order of the Universe and the flow of life. At that point, I had witnessed the personal transformation I was receiving from Reiki. I was incorporating Reiki into all areas of my daily life. With the benefits of Reiki that I was experiencing, I felt inspired and enthusiastic to share Reiki with others professionally too. So, I began renting a therapy room in a wellness center and began offering Reiki sessions in Edmonton, a couple of evenings per week. As I continued my path with Reiki, in 2011 I travelled to Seattle to take the Karuna Reiki® training with William Rand who developed this advanced form of Reiki in the 1990’s. (The meaning of the word karuna is compassionate action in Sanskrit). During those years when I began my Reiki journey, I was working at the University of Alberta as an International Admissions Advisor. With my educational background in the fields of Biology and Education, I had developed a strong interest in the area of holistic health. Shortly after the Karuna Reiki® training, I decided to leave my work at the University of Alberta to focus on this interest. In 2020, I did the Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki® Master training online, with William Rand. Holy Fire® Reiki was first introduced through the ICRT in 2014. Holy Fire® III Reiki is a combination of traditional Usui Reiki and a modern evolution of Reiki which has a higher vibration. Holy Fire® III Reiki is both powerful and gentle and its energy is noticeably more refined and comes from a higher level of consciousness. This has been my personal experience with Holy Fire® Reiki as well. Just to note, the word "holy" as used in the name Holy Fire® Reiki refers to wholeness and completeness. In 2024, I took the Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki World Peace Reiki Master Upgrade webinar which was presented by William Rand and Colleen Benelli. It was a gift to myself for my birthday. In 2025, I took William Rand’s Reiki Booster Ignition online and have definitely felt a boost in the Reiki energy afterwards. Reiki has been such a wonderful support on my personal path over the years, nurturing me holistically (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually). It has helped me to feel a stronger sense of purpose in life. Reiki has also assisted me with moving through resistance, change, and challenging experiences and situations. And it has offered guidance and direction towards solutions and opportunities. Reiki has been one way for me to deeply connect with inner stillness and the present moment. I have also worked with other lovely and transformative vibrational modalities over the years, and had focused on some of those for a while at times, but I keep coming back to Reiki. Reiki is like a caring and supportive friend that has always been there for me since it entered my life. I feel blessed that I have been able to share Reiki with others, not only in-person as I had initially begun, but also largely remotely by distance and online. This year will be 19 years since I took my first Reiki class. I can’t imagine my life since then without Reiki, as it has been such an amazing ally and light on my path. It has enriched my life in so many ways. I am comforted, knowing that as I move forward, Reiki will continue to guide me. In Oneness and Peace, Maya Bringas ✽PS. Have you ever had the experience of feeling a deep sense of connection, calm, and peace during a meditation or energy work session, but then notice those feelings gradually fade after a while? And what you really would like is to be able to experience more of that deep sense of connection with inner stillness, calm, peace, ease, and clarity outside of your meditation practice as well, as you move through your daily experiences. Or maybe you feel that you don’t have enough time to connect with inner stillness, even though you want to. If so, you’re not alone. This is something I often hear. Without some effective ways to support a conscious connection to the ever-present stillness and peace within, as one moves through their day, it can be easy to get pulled into, and perhaps even lost at times, in the thinking mind. When this happens, there is a disconnection from the present moment, which is the only time there is — the only time we are ever in. The connection with inner stillness, peace, ease, and clarity that may arise during meditation or with energy work, then seems to fade away into the background, while the noise of the mind comes back to the forefront. ✽ A solution is bringing a simple mini-meditation into everyday life situations, that can be done anywhere, including when you are on the go. I personally love to use this throughout the day. Especially if any sense of unease arises — from self-doubt or annoyance for example — then that's a sign that I need to pause a moment to come back to inner stillness. In this inner stillness is peace and the remembrance of what we truly are — wholeness. I share the suggestions for this heart-centered mini-meditation with others as well. The comments I hear back is that it's easy, quick, relaxing, and effective. The specific examples provided below, show how it can be easy for anyone to bring more inner stillness into daily living, no matter one’s schedule. This mini-meditation can be just a few minutes, or longer if you so choose. First I’ll outline when/where it can be done and then follow with the 5 simple steps. These are just a few possible suggestions to get started, and inspire you to find other times that fit into your lifestyle … Heart-Centered Mini-Meditation This Mini-Meditation to Connect with Inner Stillness Can Be Done:
5-Step Mini-Meditation to Connect with Inner Stillness: ✽ All 5 steps are done with eyes open. So, at the times when you are bringing your mind’s attention into the body, you are still aware of your surroundings. Step 1
➡ Note: if you are attuned to Reiki, you can also activate Reiki after Step 1 and the beautiful Reiki energy will enhance this mini-meditation. Depending on the place and situation you are in when doing it, you can place your hands comfortably on your body (tops of the thighs for example, if seated), or simply allow the Reiki energy to flow through you. Follow your inner guidance. ➡ Slow and deep breathing, and Reiki, activate the vagus nerve, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system and its relaxation response (rest and digest mode). Bringing focus to the heart as well, enhances the relaxation response, strengthening the heart-brain connection. Relaxation helps us access inner stillness. Step 2
Step 3
I began practicing body scanning a few years ago during a time period when I was experiencing symptoms that were often aggravated during or for a short while after bumpy train rides. It was a great support in helping me ground, be in the present moment where the point of our power is, and more deeply connect with inner stillness. ✽ Note: no length of time engaging in this heart-centered mini-meditation is too short. Even 10 seconds is beneficial. They are holy instants — moments to remember, feel into, and align more deeply with the wholeness and magnificence of your true essence. ➡ Doing the above mini-meditation steps can have a profound effect on their own. The following 2 optional steps can be added after the above 3 steps. They will enhance this heart-centered practice. Optional Add-On Steps for a Deepened Connection with Inner Stillness Step 4
I enjoy doing this and what this does, is it helps to sense the deeper, true essence — the consciousness — of what it is that you are looking at, beyond the form. It also brings a deep heart-felt sense of awe, connection, unity and Oneness with all of life. It’s a beautiful practice that deepens inner stillness, presence, and also promotes compassion. ➡ The activation of heart qualities like awe, peace, unity, and compassion also stimulate the vagus nerve and build heart coherence — a physiological state when the systems of the body, heart and brain rhythms, breathing, and hormonal response are in sync. Step 5
✽ Steps 4 and 5 can help with staying more rooted to your inner being, as you interact and engage with the outer world. As you practice this heart-centered mini-meditation, no one will even know. Whether you are at home, or while you are standing in line at the grocery store, or while sitting quietly with other passengers on the train etc.! However, your connection to inner stillness always sends ripples of stillness, peace, and coherent energy to everything and everyone around you. It blesses you and the world. Also, after practicing this gentle meditation a few times, the 5 steps may become more fluid, flowing from one step to the next. Each step merging together as one. ✽ It seems nowadays that many people are habitually pulled to their cell phones to surf the internet or social media during the times mentioned above, in which this nurturing mini-meditation can possibly be done. Such times also offer an alternative opportunity — moments to deepen connection to inner stillness, replenish your energy, and support nervous system regulation, balance and inner harmony. ➡ The more we take these short moments to rest in stillness, the more the brain and body become familiar with this state of being. So, it supports the embodiment of stillness and peace which are qualities of our true essence. This mini-meditation helps to build a strong inner foundation, so that if challenges arise, we can move through them with more ease from the perspective of our true essence. May you enjoy bringing this empowering, heart-centered mini-meditation into your everyday living.

In this post, discover how embracing unconditional self-kindness provides a solid foundation for inner peace, emotional balance, and alignment with your true essence. You'll find out about the profound gifts self-kindness brings. These gifts don’t come from striving or trying to fix something, but from allowing. Allowing ourselves to be met with compassion, and full approval. Also, enjoy trying the nurturing, Short Reflection on Self-Kindness exercise, at the end of the post, to tune into what guidance your heart has for you at this time to support your path. Kindness is an inherent quality of the heart and our True Identity and essence. It’s part of what we are. What Does Self-Kindness Looks Like? ✽ Self-kindness means approaching yourself with warmth, compassion, understanding, and non-judgement — especially during times of stress or challenge. Rather than judging or criticizing yourself, it invites a gentle and supportive inner dialogue, along with patience and empathy. ✽ Embracing unconditional self-kindness is about offering yourself the same care and support you would naturally extend to someone you care about. It’s about fully accepting yourself, just as you are right now, knowing that you — and everyone — are always doing your best in any given moment. ✽ Self-kindness also helps one with looking deeply within, to heal judgement of others and the outer world. It also helps guilt, blame, shame, fear, and all the various forms that judgement takes, to fall away. Holding onto any kind of judgement puts stress on your system and drains your personal energy. All judgement arises from the ego, not from your true essence. ✽ Embracing unconditional self-kindness doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly or trying to be the perfect person (human self). Self-kindness also reminds us of the importance to not judge ourselves when judgement does arise. Thoughts of judgement are simply thoughts. That’s it. What also naturally happens with this type of spiritually conscious and heart-centered approach to any thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and challenges, is that we are able to view all of these with a sense of detachment and from the perspective, intelligence, clarity, and wholeness, of the true Self. Recognizing that we are not these things, but the awareness beyond it all. This remembering and knowing, brings with it a deep sense of inner liberation and peace that affects us on all levels of our being (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually). Also, living consciously in this way, encourages us to be in the present moment, meeting the full spectrum of our feelings, emotions, and sensations without judgement, rather than ignoring, bypassing, or suppressing any of them, which can lead to stress, misalignment, and disharmony. Having self-compassion and a gentle, non-judgemental attitude to what we experience are important for vibrational alignment with well-being. (As a side note: looking at our emotions, thoughts, feelings, and issues can be overwhelming or challenging at times, especially if there has been trauma or if one is experiencing psychological issues. Be sure to consult and get support if needed, from a licensed professional or therapist.) Genuine kindness recognizes the Oneness of all of life with Source. It helps to transcend the ego and the illusion of separation A Few of the Other Gifts of Embracing Unconditional Self-Kindness Include: ✽ Bringing our awareness into the present moment (where our point of power is and where all possibilities exist) ✽ Raising our vibration and aligning us to our inner being essence — the true Self ✽ Triggering the release of feel-good chemicals like oxytocin and dopamine, which boost happiness ✽ Reducing stress, calming the nervous system and whole body, helping the body to feel safe and more grounded ✽ Building emotional and mental self-regulation ✽ Rewiring the body for greater overall health and well-being ✽ Rippling out, it inspires kindness, compassion, and care — qualities of the heart — to those we live with, around us and to the world ✽ Helping to support a healthy relationship with ourselves, others, our work, etc. ✽ Helping us to move forward in the natural flow of life with greater confidence, ease, and clarity A few years ago, during a challenging time period in which I was experiencing chronic body symptoms, I came to the point where I whole-heartedly committed to embracing unconditional self-kindness. I had been practicing self-love and self-kindness for years before that, but I came to realize it wasn’t always unconditional, especially in challenging situations. It became evident afterwards, that choosing unconditional self-kindness for myself was a key ingredient in my realignment with wholeness and peace. As I embraced unconditional self-kindness in my daily life, a shifting and transformation of the symptoms occurred. I felt renewed, recharged, revitalized and a deep reconnection, trust, and understanding of the innate intelligence that flows through the body. Unconditional self-kindness was instrumental in my healing. Sometimes it takes a challenging experience or situation to get our full attention on what’s not serving our highest good, so that it may be shifted. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Choosing to embrace and deeply align with unconditional self-kindness now is a beautiful gift to offer yourself. It will support you in making any shifts that your inner being essence — true Self is gently nudging you towards. Nurturing and strengthening your inner foundation now, will help you to meet, or perhaps avert in some instances, challenges with greater resilience and ease. You stay centered in who/what you truly are which is wholeness and peace. Unconditional self-kindness gently and lovingly leads us home — to the embodiment of our true essence and inherent magnificence. Exercise: A Short Reflection on Self-Kindness
Take a quiet moment when and where you won't be disturbed, to pause and connect with the intelligence of your heart and true Self, as you do the following exercise. ✽ Bring your inner attention to your heart center in the middle of your chest area. Imagine breathing in and out of your heart center as you take a few slow and gentle breaths — a little deeper than usual, but in a way that is completely easy for you. ✽ As you continue breathing in this manner, while keeping your gentle attention on your heart center, ask yourself the following questions. Feel free to write down your responses in a journal as doing so often provides greater insight and clarity. Write down whatever insights, impressions, words, feelings, etc. come to you without analyzing any of it. Simply allow the words to flow onto paper. ➡ Where in my life, have I been withholding self-kindness? ➡ How can I offer myself self-kindness and compassion in that situation(s)? ➡ What would embracing self-kindness feel like in my daily life? How would it shift the way I see and feel about myself…others…the world? ➡ What one thing can I do today to embrace self-kindness? ✽ As you move through the days to come, remember to follow the loving insights and wisdom, that you have now received from within. Feel free to share any of the responses or insights you receive, in the comment box below. In Oneness and Peace,
Maya Bringas Sometimes, in the midst of working on a project or task — especially under a deadline — it’s possible to get caught in a swirl of striving, pressure, or mental fog. But what if there’s another way? One with awareness, ease, and alignment, that honors your body’s natural rhythm. In the moment when stress arises, we’re often standing at an inner crossroads: one path leads to resistance and tension, and the other to calm, inner listening and connection. Let’s explore both. Then, I’ll guide you below, through a short, transformative, heart-centered practice to help you shift from stress and strain to ease and boosted clarity and creativity. ➡ As you read the two scenarios below, take a moment to reflect upon a time in your own life when you’ve found yourself on either path — and how each one shaped your experience. Scenario 1 You were trying to get a specific project or task completed. Maybe it required clear focus and called for some analysis, problem-solving, or a touch of creativity. Maybe it was a project that you needed to accomplish for work, and you had a deadline that you needed to meet. Or perhaps it was a time in school or when you were taking a class and learning something new. Whatever the specific situation, it may have begun as a fun or meaningful project, but somewhere along the way, the ideas were no longer flowing easily and you felt blocked. Self-doubt, over-analysis, worry, fear, or self-criticism may have crept in along the way. The voice of the inner critic was getting louder in those moments. You found yourself pushing through from the mind, trying to do the work, the assignment, project, or whatever it was. The more you pressed on, maybe even frantically to get it all done — striving, forcing, pushing yourself, trying to make the ideas come — instead you felt tense or stressed. Perhaps you’d describe it as feeling fuzzy-minded or foggy. The task then had begun to feel somewhat complicated or challenging. Scenario 2
Now reflect for a moment, on a time when you had another important project or task that you were working on. And in any moment when you felt unease, stress, or fatigue, you gave yourself permission to step away from the task awhile and take a break. During that pause, maybe you did something that’s fun for you and brings you joy. Perhaps you did some mindful breathing, meditated, took a walk in nature, watched a funny show, listened to music you enjoy, or spent time with your beloved pet, just to name a few examples. The break may have lasted an hour, a day, or even just a few minutes. You had recognized that you needed a little pause — to unwind, relax, and honor what your body was telling you. As you recall such an instance: ➡ How did it feel when you returned to the task? ➡ Did you notice that it was easier to concentrate? ➡ Perhaps you noticed that new insights and ideas came to you — almost like magic out of nowhere — without effort. That short pause may have felt like a little mini mind-vacation, that left you feeling refreshed, revitalized, and clear. From Survival Mode to Creation Mode: What the Science Reveals
When we try to make things happen, strive, force, push , this creates resistance to the natural flow of well-being. It causes strain and stress. ➡ When stressed or feeling unsafe, blood flow shifts away from the part of the brain that governs creativity and clear thinking, to the primitive part of the brain that is focused on survival and safety. ➡ And when we take moments to pause and tune into and naturally activate the qualities of the heart (joy, calm, ease, compassion, love, appreciation, gratitude, kindness etc.) and its intelligence, we re-center and re-align. The brain and body start to feel safe again, feel-good hormones are released, and blood flow shifts so that clear-thinking is restored and creative ideas can flow again. So, the benefits of heart-centered pausing are clearly evident as it activates heart-brain coherence and boosts heart-aligned action. Rather than pushing through from the mind, we can allow ourselves to flow from and with, the heart, our true inner being essence, and well-being. A Simple Practice to Pause, Tune-In and Re-Align with Your Body's Innate Intelligence The next time and anytime you notice any unease (stress) while working on a project or task, (and no urgent action is required — no emergency) try the following short practice. It requires no external resources or special conditions, only the connection with the resources already within you. And just a kind reminder to not judge yourself for any stress, worry, tension, frustration, anxiety, impatience, upset, or any kind of unease you notice you have been experiencing. It’s ok. Just notice with kindness, curiosity and compassion. (And refrain from judging any judging as well, if that occurs!) Step 1 Begin to take a few slow and gentle breaths that are a little deeper than usual, but completely comfortable for you. Imagine your breath is flowing in and out of your radiant, loving, heart center. (You can also place a hand on your heart, if it feels right for you and are able to safely do so in that particular moment). This step stops the impact of stress on your mind and body and eliminates the energy drain. Step 2 After doing step 1 for a couple of minutes or so (or longer if you like), as you continue breathing this way through your heart center, connecting more deeply with its innate intelligence and wisdom, internally gently say to your body: “I see you, hear you, and feel you. I care about you, and want you to feel safe and well. I love you. Thank you for all that you do. I appreciate you.” Then with self-compassion ask your body: “How can I help you right now?” “How can I support you?” And simply continue to rest and be (without trying to get answers to the questions) in the connection with your heart and body. You may naturally receive impressions, answers, or guidance in that moment, so just continue to be open and simply enjoy relaxing in the spaciousness of your heart essence. ✻ Then honor the loving and gentle wisdom within, by following any intuitive guidance you may receive. This is a simple yet valuable practice and it lets your body know that you are acknowledging and listening to it. And it shows your body how much you deeply care about it. It’s you offering yourself the support that you need. It is also a wonderful and powerful practice to do Step 1 above, right before working on an important project or such, as it will help you to flow into the task from a space of ease, self-compassion, and connection with the loving intelligence of your heart. And you will be more open to inspirational ideas and creativity, and boost clarity, concentration and focus, and purposeful engagement. Over the years, as I’ve learned to become more deeply aware and in tune with my inner body, I’ve been able to recognize the subtle signs of inner tension and the voice of the inner critic more quickly and clearly. This awareness helps me to stay anchored in presence, more often than not, without getting drawn into old patterns — and in those moments when I do get pulled out of presence, it gently supports a quicker return to inner stillness and peace with self-kindness and compassion. Heart-centered pausing has become a natural habit that I love. I’ve noticed the gentle, quiet inner shift that occurs when I give myself the gift of pausing in the heart. I then often find that new ideas and approaches, answers, solutions, and inspiration begin to flow naturally — sometimes even like simple miracles. Miracles reflecting the Truth of our being. I know that some reading this post may be attuned to vibrational therapies as well, like reiki. Integrating reiki with this short practice enhances the practice. I enjoy taking a heart-centered pause before activating reiki and they work beautifully together to boost the connection and alignment with our wholeness and clarity. And also, just simply tuning into the vibration and radiance of the heart feels so blissful! The heart carries a gentle yet profound power and intelligence that blesses every part of us — more than most people might ever imagine. I would love it if they taught about this in schools! As a vibrational therapy practitioner and meditator for many years, I have personally experienced — and have also witnessed in others that I work with — the heart's innate power and energy. And more recently, I have learned so much more about the intelligence of the heart through the HeartMath® Certified Practitioner training I completed. I've come to understand even more about its intelligence and have deepened my connection with it. The magnificence that the heart holds, is always available and ready to be tapped into more deeply for personal and planetary alignment, healing, and transformation. (Stay tuned — I will continue to share more about the loving power and intelligence of the heart in my upcoming e-newsletters and blog posts). So, remember to give yourself the permission to pause and center in the peaceful essence of your heart when any unease arises, and simply to relax into the magnificence that you are. And your whole being will appreciate your loving attention and kindness. May you enjoy the beautiful connection with your sacred essence. In Oneness and Peace, Maya Bringas PS. The following are 4 simple yet transformational practices that you can incorporate daily to deeply connect with Source consciousness and the true divine Self, nurture and bless your body holistically, and naturally boost your intuition at the same time. 1. Cultivate the Practice of Sustaining Renewing and Replenishing Emotions and Attitudes These include those such as appreciation, care, kindness, love, courage, and tolerance, which produce neurochemicals in the body that nourish and replenish your system. When you generate and maintain these healthy and uplifting emotions and attitudes which raise your vibration, you empower the natural flow of and connection with Source Intelligence within. Being in a state of greater inner harmony and coherence leads to boosted intuition. Coherence is when the heart, emotions, and mind are in sync and balanced, therefore creating an optimal state. As a brief side note, other benefits of generating and strengthening renewing emotions and attitudes are: boosted creativity and problem-solving skills, improved memory, longevity, and better job performance. Another benefit is greater resilience which is the ability to be prepared for, recover from, and move through challenges or stressful events with stability. On the other hand, draining and depleting emotions and attitudes like fear, anger, frustration, intolerance, judgement, and impatience, release stress hormones. These create resistance to the natural flow of well-being within and block intuition. So it's very helpful and healthy to cultivate the practice of strengthening elevated emotions and attitudes each day that nurture and bless your whole being. Doing so also aligns you to your true divine essence and builds your muscle for intuition. If you tune into the heart while doing this practice, it amplifies this technique. The heart is like a gateway to the true Self and Source Intelligence. And where you place your attention and focus is where you place your energy. By energizing the heart, you tune into and reinforce the qualities of the true Self like unconditional love, peace, well-being, abundance, and Oneness with Source and all of life. As you place your attention on the heart (which is electric and emits electrical signals) and generate and maintain elevated emotions and attitudes, this automatically sends out/broadcasts an invisible electromagnetic signal that carries this vibrational frequency and information from the heart to the rest of the body and into the field of energy around you and into your surroundings. Scientific research has revealed this. Interestingly, the heart produces the largest electromagnetic field made by the body. The heart's magnetic field is 100 times greater in strength than that of the brain. So tuning into the heart is very powerful. Love is what heals. It's what we are. We are always broadcasting a particular electromagnetic signal out into the world around us whether we are aware of it or not. And the qualities of the signal depend on the types of thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs, and attitudes we have. It is indeed helpful to be aware of what type of signal you want to be sending to your body, to those around you, and the whole world. From that place of awareness, you can reflect on this and move through each day mindfully of what you are projecting to yourself and to the world. You can bring in the heart connection into the practice by simply placing your inner awareness on the heart center area/chakra, at the center of your chest. Imagine or sense that your breath is flowing into and out of the heart center. Breathe a little slower and deeper than usual, but in a manner that is completely comfortable and easy for you. This relaxes the autonomic nervous system and promotes coherence, order and balance. Again, this type of internal state helps to boost intuition. The next step is to generate an elevated/renewing emotion or attitude. I recorded and uploaded a short video to YouTube that you can follow along to as I guide you in the practice of generating a renewing emotion while tuning into your radiant heart. It's such a simple and short, yet very effective and beneficial practice. Click on the button or on the video link below to watch it and try it out. 2. Engage in Activities that You Enjoy Doing fun activities that bring you joy are uplifting and they support emotional health too. By taking the time for fun, you invite joy in and help to stimulate chemical messengers in the body for joy. Joy is a quality of Source Intelligence and awakened consciousness, so when you activate joy, you connect with your true essence and open the door to intuitive guidance, assistance, and solutions. 3. Practice Body Awareness This involves bringing your attention into your body. The following is a brief explanation of one way to do this.
4. Pause and Become Aware of Your Surroundings and Senses Bringing your awareness to what's around you in the space you are in, also helps to bring you into the present moment and with staying rooted and grounded in the now. Inner stillness invites intuitive guidance in. Take moments of pause throughout the day to do this practice. Start with 5 minutes. These moments need not be long. When you first begin to practice this exercise, you may like to try it when you are alone and seated in a more quiet place where you can fully relax and won't be disturbed. The practice is outlined below.
There is a deep sense of connection/unity/Oneness and a recognition and understanding of the deeper meaning and purpose of everything. It really is beautiful. And in following the teachings and lessons of A Course in Miracles, students join with and therefore build a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit. This naturally leads to boosted and heightened intuition, a greater trust in the unknown, and alignment with Source consciousness. So these are just a few ways to connect with and build your intuition. I suggest starting with 1 or 2 of the above four practices, then incorporating the others into your daily routine. Try them for two to three weeks or a month and then notice or journal about how you feel and any helpful shifts that may have occurred in your life. When you get in the habit of using these practices each day, the more you will be in tune with your divine essence and intuition. As with all the practices I share, I use these valuable practices in my daily life and have experienced the deep insight, peace, assistance, support, well-being, and alignment to the divine Self and Source that they offer. And may you too, experience the benefits that they have to offer as well. Have fun with incorporating them into your life! Once you have tried them out, feel free to share your experience with any of the 4 practices I have outlined in this post in the comments section below. I always love to read your feedback! PS. The following is an affiliate link in which I receive a small commission for donations made on the Source It's Within You website to rent or purchase the film on demand using this unique link. The film provides groundbreaking scientific discoveries of the profound impact that meditation has on the mind and body. It celebrates the work of author and lecturer Dr. Joe Dispenza, and his research with dedicated scientists, showing evidence of the powerful influence that the mind has on the body. Click here to go to the website. The inner critic is the voice in the mind of all humans that says we are not good enough. It judges the self, others and the world. It is the voice of confusion, separation, disharmony and illusion. It is fear, unconsciousness (in spiritual terms) and unawareness. It runs on auto-pilot and if one is unaware of it and doesn’t learn how to become mindful of it, it can run wild and become louder and more hostile. In contrast, peace, is the essence that we all are. It exists within all of life and is eternal and unchanging. Our inner peace is love, Oneness, and divine/universal Truth. It is stillness, consciousness, and awareness. We are always in charge of what we choose to join with, identify as, and invest our energy into at any given moment. There are two choices. We can choose to either join with the inner critic or inner peace. To list just a few, some of the qualities, beliefs, patterns, and energies, characteristic of the inner critic include: -inner bully, bossy, self-doubt, isolation, victimhood, critical, harsh, guilt, indecision, separation consciousness, conflict, limitation, unworthiness, complains, blames, and energy that feels chaotic/frantic/incoherent. Some examples of thoughts that arise from the inner critic are those such as: “I’ve got more work to do on myself. I’m not quite there yet.” “Other people can get what they want, but not me.” “I don’t deserve to be happy.” “There is something wrong with me.” “There is something wrong with that person.” “I’m being punished.” “I have to wait until everything is perfect.” “I’m not (smart…pretty…handsome…slim…fat...) enough.” “I’m too old.” “I’m better than them.” “They are better than me.” And so on… Clearly the inner critic has no interest nor desire for inner peace! However, joining and identifying with the true essence of peace that we are, aligns us to our wholeness and to qualities, beliefs, patterns, and energies such as: -inner gentleness, softness, reassurance, compassion, trust in divine/universal order, innocence, stability, harmony, flow, acceptance, connection, love, Oneness/unity consciousness, worthiness, and energy that feels calm/still/coherent. How we often feel reflects where we are placing our attention and focus. Is your attention, focus, and therefore your energy, on the inner critic or inner peace? Buying into the ideas, thoughts, and tactics of the inner critic is draining and exhausting. Buying into its fears can also hold you back from living your heart's true desires or keep you stuck. Beneath/beyond any loud, noisy, frantic, hectic energy of the inner critic, the quiet stillness, calm and peace is always present and available. No matter what patterns of behavior or habits you've had in the past, the present moment always provides the opportunity to choose inner peace; peace of mind. In my upcoming Joining with Inner Stillness and Peace Workshop on June 15th you will learn how to deepen your awareness of the ever-present, loving, calming, grounding, stillness and peace within. Learn how you can join with it consistently at any moment throughout the day, every day, and transform your life’s experiences. By integrating the simple, practical and effective tools that I will share in the workshop into your daily routine, you will be able to experience alignment to your magnificence, peace and wholeness. I invite you to check out the details of the workshop if you would like to: -invest your energy into inner peace rather than the inner critic -let go of worrying and fears and live rooted in the present now moment -let self-judgement fall away so that compassion and love can bloom freely and abundantly -be more in tune with your inner essence of peace (true Self) -learn how to experience true and lasting inner peace -enjoy greater inner liberation, relaxation, and well-being of body, mind, and soul So if you would like to join in my upcoming Joining with Inner Stillness and Peace Workshop in Edmonton, I would love to see you there. No previous experience is required and it is suitable for both those who are new to these ideas and practices and also for those who are already familiar with them. A desire to join more deeply with inner peace is all that is needed. Listen to your heart. It will let you know whether to join at this time. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Maya Bringas If you enjoyed reading this article and found it helpful, feel free to share it with those that may be interested in the content. Sharing is caring! Let's spread the love and peace! Living in the state of creation is living in balance (relaxation mode). Whereas living in the state of survival is living in stress (stress mode). What is stress? It’s when the body is knocked out of homeostasis/balance. Scientific evidence reveals that most people spend 70% of the time living in survival. It’s how we are wired. Many people may not realize they are living in survival as it has become their new normal/familiar state of living. If a person is living continuously in stress mode, then the body does not have the needed resources for growth, regeneration and repair. For the most part, 75 to 90 percent of every person that walks into a health care facility in the western world walks in because of psychological or emotional stress. That's pretty much four out of five people. What's really causing their health condition is that they're emotionally stressed and emotionally out of balance. Dr. Joe Dispenza explains that the emotions that are connected to the stress hormones include: anger, hatred, violence, frustration, competition, control, judgement, envy, jealousy, insecurity, fear, anxiety, worry, angst, hopelessness, powerlessness, guilt, shame, and unworthiness. The hormones/chemicals of stress can become addictive and so a person living in chronic stress will use the conditions and problems in their life to reaffirm their addiction or conditioning to that emotion. So basically, they can be addicted to their own thoughts. This allows the inner critic/ego/unconsciousness to run the show and perpetuate drama and stress. The hormones of stress also cause incoherence in the heart and brain. Scientific evidence also reveals that we hold the power within us to change our brain/body chemistries and rewire our neurological circuitry of who we think we are. This occurs by thinking differently in helpful and healthy new ways, which then shifts our beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. Doing this with consistency and repetition is key to creating/building new neural networks. I feel having an understanding of the basics of the science of stress is very helpful and important. This is so individuals have the knowledge of how their mindscape can affect their physiology, and the processes that take place when the body’s stress response is triggered. And also what occurs when the relaxation response is triggered. Having an understanding of these processes helps to better recognize and break free from patterns that lead to stress. And so it helps one to empower their health and well-being. Having helpful tools is also key to learn how to regulate the nervous system and support the body. I’ll share some effective tools in this blog post, on how to connect with the inherent power that is within us all (Love/Spirit/Presence/true Self) to break the habit of living in survival/stress mode and into living in creation/relaxation mode. So let's first look at what occurs when the body’s stress response is triggered. The autonomic nervous system is involved mostly with actions that are automatic like breathing and digestion. Its focus is on the body's inner organs and has 2 parts which are the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. The Sympathetic Nervous System and the Stress Response The sympathetic nervous system activates the stress response, also known as the fight, flight, freeze, fawn response. This response is triggered by stressful events and it gives us a boost of energy and the focus needed to escape danger or physical threat. The body activates the stress response to re-establish homeostasis. The physiological changes that occur in the body when the stress response is triggered include:
This survival system helped our primitive ancestors thousands of years ago, to deal with threats like being chased by a wild animal, harsh environmental conditions, and starvation. As human life has evolved over time, some of the new perceived threats in today’s world that are not easily handled by fighting or fleeing, might include stressors such as: worrying about health, finances, or work deadlines, or relationship challenges. A stressor is anything that disturbs the body's normal chemical balance. The stress response can be triggered just by thinking of these. So, ruminating about past upsets and/or worrying about the future are also enough to trigger the stress response. We are designed to experience short-term stress responses when needed and then return back to homeostasis. However, we are not designed to live in constant long-term stress which can lead to dis-ease. When the sympathetic nervous system is constantly activated by chronic stress and anxiety, psychological, physiological, and behavioral effects can result in the body. We'll examine that in a moment, but first let's look at the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the other part of the autonomic nervous system. The Parasympathetic Nervous System and the Relaxation Response The parasympathetic nervous system triggers the relaxation response and relaxation mode, which is also called rest and digest mode. Rest and digest mode is the opposite of the fight, flight, freeze, fawn response. It helps to replenish our systems and conserve energy especially after being in stress mode. When the rest and digest mode is triggered, the following occur in the body:
When we are in rest and digest mode, the body can focus its energy on processes like immunity, reproduction, and digestion. It helps to normalize and calm the system after being in a state of stress. Effects of Living in Survival/Stress Mode Living in stress mode for an extended period of time can cause psychological, physiological and behavioral effects. Included below are just a few of these such as:
Again, the great news is that we always have the power within to change the brain/body in helpful ways simply by thinking in new ways as neuroscience has proven. New helpful ways of thinking lead to healthy new attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. This is possible no matter one’s age. Bridging Science and SpiritualityThe body, as well as everything and everyone that seems to be outside of the self, is a reflection of one’s mindscape. The body can hold onto the past until there is a willingness to look inwards and make healthy and helpful shifts. Self-Inquiry What is your mindscape like? What theme(s) have been present in previous years that have been unpleasant or unhelpful that are still affecting you today? What beliefs do you continue to hold onto about yourself/others/the world that are not helpful and based in fear/illusion/separation consciousness? Reflecting on these questions with curiosity, non-judgement and non-attachment to the beliefs can provide valuable insight. And from the perspective and remembrance of who you/we/all truly are as wholeness. In other words, identifying as the true Self, Consciousness, and the formless deeper essence of our being, which is unchanging and eternally perfect, whole, and complete. Rather than identifying as the personal/separate self and body (the form). It's from this remembrance and acceptance of our wholeness and the Love that we are, that deep transformation occurs. Being in the practice of living with conscious awareness of the thoughts running in the mind, our feelings, emotions, attitudes, and behavioral patterns with loving kindness, self-compassion, non-attachment and without judging ourselves is key. This also automatically quiets and withdraws power from the inner critic/ego (which is the false belief in separation) and helps to break free from unhelpful subconscious patterns and addiction to the hormones of stress. Joining with/living as the true Self/Awareness/Presence/Consciousness brings insight and realization. Also, real solutions and guidance, including any helpful shifts we can make to best support our well-being and health, arise from this space of inner Stillness and Awareness and not from the frantic, chaotic, and scattered energy of the inner critic. Living with mindfulness in this way also triggers the relaxation response. ~The present moment is where all possibilities exist~ Instead of conditioning the body to a state of stress and anxiety with habits of chronic worrying, focusing on what is unwanted and worst-case scenarios, (which is not being loving and kind to the self) building helpful and healthy emotional/mental/behavioral patterns and habits, help condition the heart/brain/body to a state of calm, coherence and order. Coherence is when the heart, emotions, and mind are in vibrational harmony and alignment. It's a state in which the heart and brain rhythms, breathing, hormonal response and body systems are in sync with each other. This then helps to support the body in carrying out its vital functions. Your true essence is the unconditional love of Source. That is what you are. What we all are as we are One with Source. There is no separate you nor I, for we are united together as One being, One light, One child of Source. The love of Source is always unconditional. There is never any judgement, nor condemnation. You have always been and forever are so dearly and completely loved. Source knows only the divine Truth of who you are which is LOVE.
When you judge yourself or something or someone else, your perception is not based on divine spiritual Truth. Such judgement needs to be lovingly and gently released so that true perception is revealed. Only love is real. Anything that is not based on unconditional love is not, because Source (and you), are only unconditional love. It is so vital to be loving, kind, gentle, patient, and compassionate with yourself. As you do, you embody your true divine essence and enable the falsities to fall away. All done with more ease and grace as you nurture your well-being with love along the way.
See yourself and everything in your world as Source sees all. See with LOVE. When you do, you see past the false illusions of the ego’s fear to what is really there. Peace, love, unity, harmony. See everyone as the divine light that they are and you honor and affirm to yourself the divine light that you are.
“Child of Light, you know not that the light is in you. Yet you will find it through it’s witnesses, for having given light to them they will return it. Each one you see in light brings your light closer to your awareness. Love always leads to love.” A Course in Miracles (T-13.VI.10:1-4).
You can connect with your sacred heart within daily to align to the divine love that you are. The following exercise will help you to really feel and embody this love. Place your hands on your heart chakra in the center of your chest. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep, gentle breaths. As you breathe in, allow your belly to expand outwards as you affirm to yourself in your mind, or aloud, “I AM the love that flows in through me.” And as you exhale, draw your belly inwards and affirm, “I AM the love that flows out through me.” Feel the connection with your sacred heart within as this loving energy expands. Continue breathing in and out with these affirmations until you feel immersed with this glorious love that resides within your sacred heart. You are a beacon of love. You are nourishing your whole being with your divine love as you also extend it out into your world. Close this exercise by affirming, “I AM Love, I AM Love, I AM Love.” You can start each morning with this short exercise, to help you to stay centered in your heart throughout the day.

Each of us and everything we perceive in the Universe is connected and One with Source (Creator/All That Is). There is no separation. Source is all-knowing, all-loving, and all-powerful, without any lack nor limitation. And so are you, as that is your true divine essence.
Your natural state of being is perfect, whole, and complete. It is when you forget or resist the Truth of who you really are (your Oneness with Source), that barriers are created to the natural flow of your infinite supply of well-being, health, inner harmony, abundance etc. For example, if you often get frustrated because you believe that you don’t have the resources to do the things that bring you joy or that you can’t have the career of your dreams because you are afraid that you will fail, you create resistance to allowing your desires to naturally flow through you. Source provides an ever-flowing supply of all we require.
Imagine for a moment Source flowing through an unobstructed river. There is a continuous, natural flow. Similarly, when you allow Source to move through you freely, you allow the natural flow of well-being, health, inner harmony, abundance etc. However, when you forget your Oneness with Source and become fearful or lack trust for example, then you resist the natural flow of Source through you. Like the example of the flowing river, if several large boulders were placed in the middle of the river, this would prevent its unobstructed natural flow. It is a matter of releasing the resistance so that you allow the natural flow of Source to move through you.
Removing your personal boulders/resistance may mean letting go of beliefs and habits that are not in alignment with your true divine essence, which is a magnificent, vibrational being of love and light. You are always in this universal flow. However, your beliefs depending on what they are, can either allow this natural flow or they can resist/disturb it. Therefore, it is important to release any such beliefs so that you allow Source to flow through you without resistance. Release not by analyzing or trying to fix things about yourself, as this leads to the false belief that there is something wrong with you. Instead observe as they arise, without attachment, any beliefs that you may have that are not in alignment to your true essence and be willing to let them go. Go within and connect with the wisdom of your Higher Holy Self to assist you with this process. You are never alone and are always supported.
Many people are often afraid of change in their life. If you are resisting letting go of the things that are not for your highest good, you may notice that the same issue in your life keeps repeating or you may feel stuck. All the resources you require are within. Trust that you will always be guided and supported by your Higher Holy Self. You are amazing! Know this, feel this, and embody this!
